Government officials will take international journalists to damaged sites in Surin province, highlighting Cambodia’s heavy weapon attacks and landmine use, while demonstrating ordnance disposal operations.

BANGKOK, Thailand – In addition to the temporary observer team (IOT) scheduled to begin their on-site visit today, the government is preparing to bring global media to Surin province. This visit will specifically cover areas that have sustained damage from Cambodia’s acts of aggression, and it will also feature a demonstration of operations to destroy unexploded ordnance remaining from the encroachment on Thai sovereignty.

Government Spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub stated that this week, the government and the Royal Thai Army will guide global media to the Suranaree Force areas in Surin province. They will visit various locations that have sustained damage from heavy weapon attacks by Cambodia. The visit will also include a trip to areas where landmines have been recovered by officials and a demonstration of operations to destroy unexploded ordnance resulting from the encroachment on Thai sovereignty.

Regarding Mr. Michael Alfaro, an American who livestreamed from the Cambodia-Thai border claiming to be a White House media representative and accusing Thailand of encroaching on Cambodian territory, Spokesperson Jirayu said that the initial intention was to invite him to witness the reality from Thailand’s perspective, showing areas such as schools, civilian zones, and hospitals that were subjected to Cambodia’s acts of aggression. However, upon discovering that Mr. Alfaro was not a White House media representative as he claimed, the invitation for Mr. Alfaro’s visit to Thailand was rescinded.

Spokesperson Jirayu further emphasized that Cambodia continues its attempts to distort facts through various means. These include creating false information, employing influencers, staging situations to slander Thailand, and hiring fictitious individuals. He urged the public and media following the Thai-Cambodian border situation to exercise discretion and verify information with official government agencies before believing or sharing certain issues.

Concerning the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border across all seven provinces, the latest reports indicate that the situation remains normal. The Royal Thai Army continues to deploy forces along all 11 strongholds and is continuously installing barbed wire fences to preserve Thai sovereignty and prevent any encroachment. (NNT)
