Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives promote soil testing, biofertilizers, and the “4 Right” application principles to ensure quality fertilizer use and support crop productivity nationwide.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has ordered closer monitoring of fertilizer supply and pricing amid global tensions that are raising concerns among farmers ahead of the upcoming planting season.

The Department of Agriculture has been tasked with assessing market conditions and regulating fertilizer quality to ensure products meet national standards. The order seeks to prevent the sale of substandard fertilizers that could raise production costs and reduce crop yields.

At the same time, agencies are promoting alternatives to reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers, such as biofertilizers and biological agents that enhance nutrient uptake and plant health. Farmers are also being encouraged to adopt efficient application practices under the “4 Right” principles—covering the correct type, rate, timing, and method—along with integrated use of chemical, organic, and biological inputs.

These measures are being implemented through community soil and fertilizer management centers nationwide, supported by expanded soil testing services. Available options include field test kits, local offices, laboratory analysis, and online systems, helping farmers align fertilizer use with soil conditions, lower input costs, and maintain productivity despite market volatility.
