BANGKOK, Thailand – The government is advancing plans to modernize the country’s road transport and logistics systems by expanding the use of digital technology, in line with the Ministry of Transport’s digital government policy.
According to Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Periswivattana, the Department of Land Transport is developing the DLT-TMS platform as a centralized database for road transport operations. The system enables logistics operators to use transport data for route planning, cost control, and service improvements, while providing authorities with more accurate tools for freight transport analysis and policy development.
Officials are also preparing revisions to the formulas for freight transport and passenger fares so pricing more closely reflects actual operating costs. Transport management data will also be used to reduce empty return trips by improving cargo planning and vehicle use, helping lower logistics expenses and improve transport efficiency nationwide.
In addition, the government plans to propose to the Cabinet an old-vehicle trade-in program for trucks and public transport vehicles to support electric vehicle adoption and reduce pollution from the transport sector. Authorities are also continuing promotion of the Q Mark certification standard for truck operators, with 462 operators and more than 64,000 trucks already certified nationwide. (NNT)
