Thailand shines at Sandhurst as Army Cadet wins top international honor

The Royal Thai Army praised Cadet Rawit Vanichayakornkul for winning the prestigious International Sword at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, marking a proud moment for Thailand on the global military stage.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Royal Thai Army highly commends Cadet Rawit Vanichayakornkul for graduating from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, where he was awarded the prestigious International Sword for 2026. This accomplishment represents a significant milestone for Thailand on the international military stage.

On April 10, Cadet Rawit completed his studies at RMAS as a representative of the Royal Thai Army and was awarded the International Sword, the academy’s highest honor for international cadets with outstanding academic and military performance. Sharon Nesmith, Vice-Chief of the Defense Staff of the United Kingdom, presented the award during the Sovereign’s Parade as the sovereign’s representative. The honor includes a British Army infantry sword engraved with Cadet Rawit’s name and a citation of excellence. The ceremony was broadcast live to a global audience.



Cadet Rawit graduated from the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School (Class 60) and the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy (Class 71). He is currently assigned to the 1st Infantry Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, King’s Guard. Throughout the 44-week training program, he demonstrated exceptional leadership, resilience, and professionalism. His performance consistently surpassed that of his British and international peers in the same class.

The Royal Thai Army stated that this achievement is a source of national pride and demonstrates the high caliber and determination of Thai cadets on the international stage. (NNT)
