BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed agencies to prepare for heavy rainfall expected across southern Thailand from October 5, with conditions forecast to intensify during October 10–12. The preparations follow a meeting of the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Headquarters today (Oct 2), which reviewed the nationwide water situation and upcoming weather conditions.
The Thai Meteorological Department forecasts more concentrated rainfall from Prachuap Khiri Khan southward to Narathiwat beginning October 5, with heavier rain expected during October 10–12. Anutin cautioned that the outlook remains a forecast and conditions could change, while the Central and Northern regions are not currently expected to receive large amounts of rain during the same period.
Relevant agencies have been directed to prepare personnel, food, medicines, and other essential supplies in advance. Provincial governors were also instructed to ensure evacuation centers provide safe, suitable accommodation, including adequate food, clothing, bedding, and necessities, as well as clean toilets and proper sanitation. Authorities will remain on high alert across southern Thailand and deploy resources if the forecast conditions develop. The government is also monitoring weather conditions during the IMF-World Bank 2026 meetings, while preparations continue based on updated forecasts and on-the-ground conditions. (NNT)
