BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suchart Chomklin has announced a strategic partnership to raise Satun UNESCO Global Geopark to international sustainability standards. This initiative aims to establish Satun province as a leading global destination for geological tourism and education.

On April 2, 2026, Director-General of the Department of Mineral Resources Yongyut Nakviroj presided over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at Satun Provincial Hall. The agreement formalizes collaboration among four key agencies: the Department of Mineral Resources, the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Satun Province, and the Satun UNESCO Global Geopark Office.

This partnership aims to apply academic research to local development. Key objectives include strengthening local personnel, improving knowledge management, and launching public campaigns to promote the park as an international learning hub. The Department of Mineral Resources will continue to provide geological expertise and training to local communities and networks in preparation for future UNESCO re-evaluations.

The Deputy Prime Minister stated that this collaboration provides a long-term foundation for systematic development. By encouraging public participation and supporting the grassroots economy, the government seeks to ensure that preserving natural heritage leads to sustainable growth for the people of Satun. (NNT)
