Thailand’s Foreign Minister has presented the country’s APEC symbol, as Thailand takes on the chairmanship of APEC in 2022. The new logo “Chalom ” reflects the strong and resilient connectivity between member states.

The event was held at ICON Siam department store on Thursday.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Pramudiwnai, along with Minister of Prime Minister’s Office Anucha Nakasai, presided over the unveiling ceremony of the new APEC symbol.

The Chalom symbol was selected through a design contest taken part by college students. The winning symbol is the masterpiece of Chawanon Wongtrakuljong, a college student from Chulalongkorn University.

Chawanon said he was inspired by this woven product of Thailand. Thai people use Chalom to carry their belongings, as well as to give out as a present to those they respect.

Chalom has long been the symbol of Thai trade, since ancient times. The Chalom-weaving technique is so powerful and resilient that it reflects Thailand’s strong connectivity with member countries. (NNT)
