Thunderstorms Expected Across Thailand as Summer Storms Arrive.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thailand Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning, forecasting widespread hot conditions throughout the country, with extreme heat expected in the northern, northeastern, and central regions. Some areas will also experience thunderstorms and strong winds. The southern region is expected to see heavy rainfall in certain areas, and the Bangkok metropolitan area may experience scattered thunderstorms with a 20% chance of rain.

The department’s forecast for the next 24 hours indicates that hot weather will persist across most of Thailand, with extreme heat particularly in the north, northeast, and central regions. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are expected in some areas, prompting public safety warnings. Citizens are advised to avoid outdoor activities in areas with high heat and potential storms.

The southern region will experience heavy rainfall due to southwesterly winds across the Gulf of Thailand, southern Thailand, and the Andaman Sea. In the Andaman Sea, waves could reach up to 1 meter, with stronger waves exceeding 2 meters in areas experiencing thunderstorms. Mariners are urged to avoid storm-prone areas in these regions.

From April 26 to May 1, the upper regions of Thailand will face summer storms, with thunderstorms, gusty winds, hailstorms, heavy rainfall, and potential lightning strikes. The storms are expected due to a medium-strength high-pressure system from China, which will spread over Vietnam and the South China Sea, creating favorable conditions for thunderstorms in the northern and central regions of Thailand.

In addition, the weak winds combined with the heat will lead to a moderate to high accumulation of dust and smoke, particularly in the northern and northeastern regions, potentially affecting air quality. In Bangkok and surrounding areas, temperatures will range from 28-29°C in the early morning, rising to highs of 36-40°C during the day.

Authorities urge people to take precautions against the intense heat and possible storms, including staying hydrated, limiting exposure to direct sunlight, and seeking shelter during storms.
