BANGKOK- Thailand Post has introduced a measure to help crack down on drug smuggling by having senders of parcels at its post offices produce a proof of identity.

Waraporn Chaitiamwong, manager of organizational communications for Thailand Post, said the new ruling which came into effect today calls for parcel senders to present either their ID cards or, in case of foreigners, their passports.

Such personal details will be recorded at the post office. The first day of the implementation of the measure saw people readily complying.
