TAK, Thailand – Intense fighting erupted between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and Myanmar’s military just 2 kilometers from Thailand’s border. Thai authorities have reinforced security measures to ensure safety in the region.
Overnight into the morning (April 20), heavy gunfire was exchanged between the two forces near Huai Plakong village, in Mae Ramad district, Tak province, only 2 kilometers from the Thai-Myanmar border. The sounds of the battle were clearly heard in Thailand, with smoke from explosions visible from across the border. Many Myanmar civilians fled to Thailand, crossing the Moei River to seek refuge.
Local authorities, including police, military, and district officials in Mae Ramad, have joined forces to provide security and shelter for displaced individuals at a local Buddhist temple, where they are temporarily housed. Thailand’s forces remain on high alert along the border, maintaining a 24-hour watch to protect national sovereignty and ensure the safety of both locals and refugees. (TNA)
