Thailand looks to CEPA to unlock stronger Korea trade and investment

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul attended the Republic of Korea’s 2026 National Day reception in Bangkok on October 2, 2026, and reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in strategic, economic, and people-to-people areas. The Prime Minister was welcomed by Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Thailand Park Yongmin at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok. He extended congratulations to the government and people of the Republic of Korea and highlighted the longstanding friendship between the two countries.

The Prime Minister stated that their relationship has developed into a Strategic Partnership covering security, economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges. He emphasized that people-to-people ties remain central to bilateral relations, with Thailand continuing to attract Korean visitors while Korean culture, food, entertainment, and music remain widely popular among Thai audiences.

On economic cooperation, the Prime Minister described the Republic of Korea as an important trading partner and welcomed greater Korean investment in Thailand. He hoped that ongoing negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) would create more opportunities for trade, investment, business development, and employment.

The Prime Minister also expressed confidence that Thailand and the Republic of Korea would continue to advance their Strategic Partnership and generate tangible benefits for the people of both countries. He thanked Ambassador Park, whose tenure in Thailand is due to conclude this year, for his contribution to strengthening bilateral relations and wished him success in his future assignments.
