BANGKOK, Thailand – The government has launched “WebD,” a new artificial intelligence platform developed by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to combat illegal websites and improve online safety. The platform, is expected to increase the number of website takedowns by over 70 percent in 2025, enhancing efforts to reduce online crime and protect internet users.
WebD combines AI and Robotic Process Automation to detect unlawful URLs, collect digital evidence, and automatically generate and submit court petitions. The platform also delivers court orders to internet service providers and verifies that blocked URLs remain inaccessible using a real-time checker module. With these functions automated, WebD performs tasks more than 30 times faster than human officers, reducing the processing time for court orders by five working days.
A key feature of the platform is its AI Crawler, which actively scans the web for potentially illegal websites and preserves evidence of these sites. This tool replicates the workload of nearly 100 human investigators and initiates a streamlined process that includes screening, legal petitioning, and enforcement. The platform is capable of blocking an average of 175 URLs per day.
Authorities say the new system enhances Thailand’s ability to track and dismantle digital networks associated with scams, fraud, and other cybercrimes. With more than 100,000 illegal URLs identified annually, WebD offers a scalable, technology-driven approach to enforcement that complements existing human oversight. (NNT)
