Thailand joins BRICS Summit for first time, calls for financial reform and AI cooperation

Minister Jiraporn leads Thai delegation at BRICS Summit in Brazil, urges reform of global financial system to support developing nations.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Prime Minister’s Office Minister Jiraporn Sindhuprai is leading Thailand’s delegation at the 17th BRICS Summit, which opened on July 6 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This is Thailand’s first participation in the forum as a partner country.

The summit is attended by leaders from BRICS member states, partner nations, and invited countries, as well as key figures from international organizations, including the United Nations and the World Trade Organization. Discussions will focus on restructuring the global economic and financial system, strengthening multilateral cooperation, and promoting the responsible development of artificial intelligence.



Minister Jiraporn stressed during the session the need to enhance access to development finance and advocated for reforms in the international financial system to better meet the needs of developing countries. She also made clear the importance of global cooperation in utilizing artificial intelligence to address cross-border challenges, such as cybercrime, money laundering, and other forms of transnational crime.

Jiraporn is also scheduled to deliver a keynote address on July 7 under the theme “Advancing Global Health and Climate Action through Inclusive Multilateralism,” continuing Thailand’s contribution to the broader agenda of sustainable development and international collaboration.


The BRICS bloc now accounts for nearly half of the world’s population and about 27 percent of global GDP. According to the International Monetary Fund, member economies are projected to grow by 4.2 percent in 2025, reinforcing the group’s increasing influence in global affairs. (NNT)
