BANGKOK, Thailand – The government has introduced new legal measures to accelerate action against online crime, allowing authorities to block illegal internet addresses within hours in urgent cases instead of waiting several days. The new regulation issued by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) speeds up the removal of unlawful online content, improving the government’s response to evolving cyber threats.
Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek said the regulation covers online scam networks, illegal gambling websites, mule accounts, DeepFake investment scams, online sales of e-cigarettes, fraudulent text messages, and deceptive mobile applications. The faster process allows authorities to seek court orders more quickly when urgent action is required.
The ministry reported that 883,012 illegal URLs were suspended or blocked between October 1, 2025, and July 13, 2026, including more than 600,000 online gambling websites removed under court orders. Authorities said the updated procedures will help law enforcement respond immediately to online criminal activity, reducing public exposure to online scams and other cybercrime. (NNT)
