BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has said the Cabinet will consider a 400-billion-baht emergency loan decree at its meeting on Mar 5, with funds intended to address economic pressures linked to unrest in the Middle East.
The funding, a key item on the government’s economic agenda, is expected to support the “Thais Help Thais” program to reduce living costs over a four-month period from June to September 2026, while also assisting with the country’s energy transition. The government has indicated it will proceed quickly if the measure is approved.
Prime Minister Anutin said the government is moving ahead with its planned measures, with the proposed borrowing intended to address rising costs and ongoing economic uncertainty.
When asked about a Suan Dusit Poll ranking him as the most prominent government-side politician, Anutin responded briefly with a traditional gesture of acknowledgment before leaving to attend a royal reception at Government House. (NNT)
