Pol. Lt. Gen. Trirong Piewphan, Deputy Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police, confirms the formation of a Thailand–Cambodia joint working group to coordinate efforts against cross-border call center scams.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to establish a joint task force to coordinate efforts against cross-border call center and online scam networks, following bilateral border security discussions between the two countries.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Trirong Piewphan, Deputy Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police and spokesperson for the Cyber Crime Suppression Center, said the agreement was reached during the Thai–Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC) meeting on October 23, led by Defense Minister Gen. Nattapon Nakpanich.

Representing the Thai police were Pol. Gen. Kitirat Phanphet, Pol. Gen. Thana Chuwong, and Pol. Lt. Gen. Jiraphop Bhuridej, who presented key proposals for cooperation in tackling transnational scam operations based in Cambodia. Cambodian authorities welcomed the proposal and agreed to form a “Thailand–Cambodia Joint Working Group” to exchange intelligence and coordinate enforcement activities against cybercrime networks.

Regarding Myanmar’s recent operation at KK Park, long known as a base for international scam groups, Trirong said Thai police have deployed immigration, anti-human trafficking, and cybercrime units to identify those fleeing into Thailand — distinguishing between human trafficking victims and members of scam operations. Initial reports confirm that no Thai nationals were found among the rescued individuals, most of whom were Chinese, Indonesian, or Vietnamese.

Responding to South Korean media reports claiming that Korean scam syndicates had moved their bases to Thailand, Trirong said the National Police Chief has ordered a fact-finding inquiry. He stressed that establishing such bases in Thailand is “highly unlikely” due to strict law enforcement and close monitoring.

“Thai police remain fully committed to preventing and suppressing cybercrime,” Trirong said, urging the public to trust in the authorities’ vigilance and continued cooperation with neighboring countries. (TNA)
