BANGKOK, Thailand – The government has intensified its campaign against cybercrime, blocking 62,516 cryptocurrency mule accounts as of July 31, 2026, and urging the public to scrutinize investment offers promising high returns with minimal risk. Government Spokesperson Ratchada Dhnadirek stated on August 17, 2026, that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul directed agencies to take proactive measures against online crime. These include prevention, arrests and prosecution, disruption of mule accounts and financial routes, and blocking communication channels used by scammers.
The operation involves the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Central Investigation Bureau, the Bank of Thailand, and other agencies. Its goal is to prevent capital and digital-asset markets from being used for money laundering or other financial crimes.
The SEC recorded 368 actions to block fraudulent investment platforms between January and May 2026, a decrease of more than 80% from 2,162 actions during the same period in 2025.
Authorities warned that scammers use pyramid schemes, fraudulent digital-asset investments, fake links, fabricated documents, and unauthorized images of well-known individuals. They often pressure victims to make quick decisions by promising high returns, rapid profits, and low risk.
The spokesperson advises the public to verify investment opportunities before transferring funds, avoid clicking suspicious links, and report suspicious activities through the SEC Hotline 1207 (extension 22) or the “Jang Rat” feature on the Thang Rat Mobile Application. (NNT)
