Thailand and China deepen strategic ties in Krabi talks focused on green economy and energy security

KRABI, Thailand – Thailand and China held high-level diplomatic talks in Krabi on April 25, to set a strategic direction for cooperation in the green economy, technology, and energy. ​Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi for informal consultations, followed by a joint press conference at 8 p.m.

The two nations agreed to prioritize collaboration in innovation, technology, and the digital sector to advance the green economy, with a particular focus on promoting Electric Vehicles (EVs). The ministers also discussed the effects of international regulations and instability in the Middle East, especially regarding energy security, which is a key concern for both countries.



​The meeting also addressed regional and international challenges, including the energy crisis resulting from Middle East tensions and the Thailand-Cambodia border issue. China reiterated its support for peaceful resolutions and its opposition to raising bilateral issues in international forums. The ministers discussed the situation in Myanmar, with both sides seeking to improve relations between Myanmar and ASEAN member states.

​This meeting represents a significant step forward in Thai-Chinese relations as both countries celebrate over 50 years of diplomatic ties and more than 700 years of cultural and commercial history.
