BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand and Australia have signed an agreement to strengthen their partnership in combating transnational crime in the Mekong sub-region. The signing ceremony for the Mekong-Australia Partnership on Transnational Crime took place on July 8th, 2025, at the Thailand International Cooperation Agency, or TICA.
The agreement was signed by Director-General of TICA Chulvat Narinthrangura and Australian Ambassador to Thailand, Her Excellency Dr. Angela Jane Macdonald. Representatives from Thailand’s National Security Council and the Royal Thai Police also witnessed the event.
The arrangement serves as the framework for the second phase of the program, which will run until 2029. It aims to enhance cooperation through improved policy analysis, upgraded operational capacity, and better regional collaboration on information sharing and border management. In Thailand, activities will focus on narcotics, financial crime, and child sexual exploitation.
Director-General Chulvat reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to work with Australia and other Mekong countries to ensure regional security. Ambassador Macdonald also underscored the importance of continued collaboration to address shared security challenges. (NNT)
