
BANGKOK, Thailand – Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa met with his Vietnamese counterpart, Bui Thanh Son, on August 14, to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and the regional security situation. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 10th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
The two ministers discussed deepening their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including preparations for the upcoming 6th Joint Committee on Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) and the official visit to Thailand by Viet Nam’s Prime Minister. They also talked about expanding trade and investment.
Regarding the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border, Mr. Maris thanked Viet Nam for supporting a peaceful, bilateral resolution. He updated his counterpart on the recent General Border Committee (GBC) agreement and reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to its implementation, a stance the Vietnamese minister welcomed. Mr. Maris also stressed the importance of advancing demining efforts in the border area to ensure safety and reduce tensions. (NNT)
