Deputy Prime Minister and MHESI Minister Prof. Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat highlights Thai research and innovation delivering practical solutions for communities affected by flooding.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prince of Songkla University (PSU), in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), has delivered 3,000 boxes of “Grab agro” ready-to-eat meals to Silpakorn University on October 3, 2026, for distribution to flood-affected residents and university staff. Deputy Prime Minister and MHESI Minister Prof. Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat stated that this initiative highlights the practical impact of Thai research and innovation in emergency situations. The meals use sterilization technology, allowing storage for up to 18 months without refrigeration. Rice and side dishes are packaged separately and can be consumed immediately, even without electricity.

Associate Professor Dr. Saowakon Wattanachant and Korawan Rodkhem of PSU’s Faculty of Agro-Industry, Hat Yai Campus, developed these products through food innovation research conducted since 2011. PSU AGRO FOOD Co., Ltd., a university holding company, commercially produces these meals, which include chicken massaman curry, chicken panang curry, sour mackerel curry, spicy catfish curry, garlic chicken, green chicken curry, and chicken basil rice. The products are certified by the Thai FDA and Halal authorities.

The Deputy Prime Minister also praised Silpakorn University’s Student Council for organizing volunteers to prepare relief packages for Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Suphan Buri. Those wishing to support the relief efforts by donating essential items, such as drinking water, canned food, or medical supplies, may contact the Silpakorn University Student Council at 065-708-9935 or 098-474-4288.
