BANGKOK, Thailand – The Royal Thai Police are coordinating with LINE Thailand to block illegal chat groups and communication channels used for criminal activities on the platform. Pol Lt Gen Trairong Phiwphan said recent discussions focused on progress in restricting private and group communications linked to offenses such as online gambling, fraud, impersonation scams, and the sale of illegal goods. LINE Thailand representatives attended the meeting to review ongoing enforcement efforts.
Authorities also requested expanded cooperation to address other activities, including the illegal trade of firearms and narcotics conducted through chat groups. LINE Thailand indicated its readiness to cooperate, with support from its parent company in Japan, to improve response systems. Officials said work is underway to develop a faster and more efficient system for handling data-blocking requests, with implementation expected by mid-2026. (NNT)
