BANGKOK, Thailand – Thai police have detained four Myanmar nationals and seized 10 drones following unauthorized flights near Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, officials said on Tuesday.

Police raided a hotel in the Lat Krabang district, located near the kingdom’s main aviation hub.

The suspects told investigators they were acting on orders from a coordinator in Myanmar to receive the devices from a transport vehicle and smuggle them across the border for resale in Myanmar. The group allegedly planned to dismantle the drones and pack them to be transported on commercial flights as regular luggage.

The four suspects have had their visas revoked and remain in custody pending further investigation.

The arrests follow a warning from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) regarding suspicious drones near the airport that resemble tactical models used in foreign conflicts.

In a separate but related enforcement action, security units have seized more than 2,500 suspicious drones as part of a broader crackdown on unregistered and potentially hostile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Investigations are ongoing. Further details will be provided as they become available. (TNA)
