Thai leader backs regional free trade and digital economy goals at ASEAN Summit, urging swift action amid global economic volatility.

KUALA LUMPUR – Thailand’s Prime Minister is attending the 46th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, advocating for stronger regional economic integration and new free trade agreements to navigate a volatile global economy.

Hosted by Malaysia under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” the summit brings together leaders from nine ASEAN nations, along with the ASEAN Secretary-General and Timor-Leste’s Prime Minister.



In her address, the Thai leader stressed the need for ASEAN to re-evaluate strategies to counter global economic shifts, including U.S. tariffs, through deeper cooperation and the exploration of new FTAs.

She emphasized Thailand’s support for a transparent, free, and fair multilateral trading system, pushing for the completion of the Digital Economy Framework Agreement by 2025 to unlock new growth and improve the quality of life for ASEAN citizens. (TNA)
