BANGKOK, Thailand – The Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (SACIT) has transformed traditional Thai Pha Khao Ma fabric into stylish, practical tote bags, distributed as official souvenirs at the 2026 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok.
The summit, held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center from October 12 to 18, provided a platform to highlight Thailand’s cultural heritage. The vibrant woven fabric, rooted in Thai tradition, has been adapted for modern use while preserving its distinctive simplicity.
The exclusive summit souvenirs were produced by Pakamian, a SACIT member with over 50 years of handicraft experience in Ratchaburi province. Pakamian emphasizes community empowerment, employing local residents for more than 80 percent of its workforce. Collaboration with skilled tailors in Ratchaburi and Chiang Mai has supported skill transfer, job creation, and direct income distribution to grassroots communities.
This campaign has brought Thai handicrafts to the global stage, earning recognition from international delegates. During the summit, policymakers, financial leaders, and attendees carried Pha Khao Ma bags, highlighting the universal appeal and lasting legacy of Thai artisanship. (NNT)
