BANGKOK, Thailand – Director of the Thai-Cambodian Joint Information Coordination Center (JIC) Air Chief Marshal Prapas Sornchaidee confirmed that Thai authorities have operated only within areas under Thailand’s security oversight and responsibility. The statement followed a Cambodian government statement dated June 19, 2026, which alleged that Thai authorities had planted Thai national flags on Cambodian territory, constituting a violation of Cambodia’s sovereignty. ACM Prapas said Thai authorities have been performing their duties in areas where Thailand has maintained security and carried out operations. He added that areas where both sides hold differing views on the boundary should be considered and resolved through mechanisms jointly agreed upon by the two countries. This approach is intended to prevent the issue from being interpreted or amplified in a way that could affect the atmosphere of bilateral relations.
Regarding Cambodia’s allegation that Thailand burned a warehouse in the O Smach area, he stated there is no information or evidence to support this claim. The director affirmed Thailand’s commitment to the joint statement signed on December 27, 2025, and reiterated that Thailand prioritizes facts and diplomatic channels over media exchanges to avoid escalating tensions. Regarding the ongoing construction of fences and border structures, the director stated these are standard security operations conducted entirely within Thai jurisdiction. He reaffirmed that these measures are solely for safety and do not aim to alter established borders or to seek territorial advantage. (NNT)
