Tokyo, 24 May 2013 Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe hold a bilateral discussion highlighting the Japanese infrastructure investment and efforts to relieve tensions in the South China Sea and the Korean peninsula.

In her meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister in Tokyo, Miss Yingluck reaffirmed Thailand’s stance on finding a diplomatic solution to the rising conflicts, suggesting all parties concerned use China’s Special Foreign Ministers Meeting in the next few months as a platform to seek a peaceful outcome of the issues. She hoped the talks would contribute to maritime security, enabling the region to become peaceful and a nuclear free zone.

As for the development of the Dawei deep seaport and the special Economic Zone in Myanmar, Prime Minister Yingluck encouraged Japan to play an important role in the projects. She said Japanese investments in Myanmar’s infrastructure would, in turn, expand Japan’s trading market and its investment base.

Prime Minister Yingluck also applauded her Japanese counterpart for initiating the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths project.
