BANGKOK, Thailand – Minister of Industry Varawut Silpa-archa launched a major inspection and enforcement operation targeting industrial waste treatment and recycling facilities on November 1, 2026, emphasizing strict legal action against violations regardless of business size or influence.
The operation deploys 50 specialized inspection teams across five provinces: Samut Prakan, Prachin Buri, Chon Buri, Chachoengsao, and Rayong. The Ministry of Industry is coordinating with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Pollution Control Department.
The Minister stated that the initiative follows Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s directive to address industrial waste management issues and protect public health and the environment. He emphasized that enforcement should extend beyond financial penalties to include license revocation, asset seizure, and criminal prosecution where applicable.
The Minister instructed officials to conduct inspections without intimidation or interference from influential individuals or major businesses. Officials are required to report any pressure or obstruction, and the government has pledged full support for enforcement personnel. Varawut also emphasized that officers must exercise their legal authority responsibly and coordinate with relevant agencies, including prosecutors and the courts. Government officials involved in corruption will face legal action without exception.
More than 1,500 factories have been identified for monitoring and inspection. Operations are scheduled to begin on November 2, 2026. The Minister stated that the ministry aims to deliver concrete enforcement results, restore public confidence, and prevent improper industrial waste management from harming communities, the environment, and future generations.
