Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from Europe and had mild symptoms.

Mr Anutin, representatives of the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau and the governor of Phuket province attended the 170th General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in Paris on June 19-21.

They presented Thailand’s readiness to host the Specialised Expo in Phuket in 2028.

The delegation then went to Geneva to attend the 50th meeting of the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board on June 21-24.

The delegation returned to Thailand on June 26. Mr Anutin had muscle ache and a sore throat and his antigen test returned positive.

Dr Kiattiphum Wongrajit, permanent secretary for public health, said Mr Anuthin might have contracted the disease during the overseas trip because he met, talked and shook hands with many people who attended the meetings.

Doctors ordered his isolation for one week and he was not admitted to a hospital. (TNA)
