MINA, Saudi Arabia – Thai pilgrims performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, began arriving in Mina on May 25, marking the first day of their stay in the tent city during Tarwiyah Day as they prepare for Wuquf at Arafat, the most significant rite of the Hajj. Throughout the day, pilgrims engaged in religious observances such as the five daily prayers, remembrance of Allah, Quran recitation, and spiritual preparation for the upcoming rites at Arafat.
Parinya Prayadsap, an expert from the Thailand Hajj Affairs Office, explained that Tarwiyah Day falls on the eighth day of Dhu al-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar and marks the beginning of the key stages of Hajj. On this day, pilgrims traditionally travel to Mina before proceeding to Arafat the following day. He noted the tradition dates back to the Prophet Muhammad, who traveled from Madinah to Mina and instructed his companions to prepare water and provisions for the journey to Arafat.
Although modern transportation and facilities have eased logistical challenges, Parinya emphasized that the stay in Mina still holds deep spiritual significance. It serves as a time for reflection, devotion, and preparation before proceeding to Arafat, one of the most sacred sites in Islam and the focal point of Hajj. He added that the stay in Mina is not just a stop on the pilgrimage but an opportunity for pilgrims to strengthen their faith, reflect on their lives, and prepare physically and spiritually for Wuquf at Arafat, the most important day of Hajj.
