BANGKOK, Thailand – The government has deployed four senior ministers to border provinces affected by rising tensions with Cambodia, following orders from Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai. The move is part of an urgent response to support residents in vulnerable areas and prepare for the potential return of Thai nationals currently in Cambodia.
Prime Minister’s Office Minister Jiraporn Sindhuprai has been assigned to Surin province. Minister of Tourism and Sports Sorawong Thienthong is overseeing operations in Buri Ram. Minister of Justice Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong has been dispatched to Si Sa Ket, while Deputy Minister of Interior Theerarat Samrejvanich is stationed in Ubon Ratchathani province. Each minister is tasked with leading on-the-ground coordination between local authorities and central government agencies to provide immediate assistance.
Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa held a virtual meeting on July 24 with relevant government bodies and executives from seven Thai airlines to prepare contingency plans for Thai citizens in Cambodia. Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia, Thai AirAsia X, Bangkok Airways, Thai VietJet, Nok Air, and Thai Lion Air confirmed their readiness to operate special flights if needed.
