The Ministry of Defense reports Thai troops securing several districts while clashes persist in contested zones. Diplomatic efforts to repatriate Thai nationals remain ongoing as air and naval operations target fortified Cambodian positions.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, said during a security briefing today (Dec 12) that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is continuing to work with Cambodian authorities to secure the return of Thai nationals currently in Cambodia. He acknowledged that Cambodia has not yet responded to Thailand’s requests and that heightened tensions have complicated coordination. Deputy MFA Spokesperson Maratee Nalita Andamo said all diplomatic channels remain active despite the challenges.

Colonel Richa Suksuwanon provided an update on military operations, reporting that Thai forces have secured several areas in the 2nd Army Region—including Sam Tae, Chong Chom, Chong Prao, and Chong Rayi—as well as Ban Nong Ya Kaeo in the 1st Army Region. Other locations, such as Chong Ahn Ma, Chong Khana, and the area surrounding Prasat Ta Khwai, remain contested due to difficult terrain and ongoing clashes.

In Sakaeo province, conditions continue to shift. Thai forces initially regained control of Ban Khlong Phaeng on December 9, but Cambodian units launched heavy attacks later that evening, injuring Thai personnel. Officials say the area is still not stable enough for permanent deployment, and the Burapha Task Force is adjusting its tactical posture while reestablishing control.

Air and naval operations also continued overnight. With support from the Royal Thai Air Force, the Royal Thai Navy conducted strikes on fortified positions in the Chamrak subdistrict, where reconnaissance identified trench networks and underground bunkers used by Cambodian forces. Thai intelligence reports that Cambodia is strengthening its positions across several fronts, signaling continued escalation and the need for sustained Thai operations. (NNT)
