Army confirms no casualties after Cambodian forces opened fire near Chong An Ma; Thai units remain on alert as officials monitor tensions.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Royal Thai Army reported that Cambodian troops had fired small arms and grenade launchers into Thai territory near Chong An Ma in Ubon Ratchathani province on September 27. The incident occurred between 12:00 and 12:30 p.m. and was reported to Army headquarters by the 2nd Army Area Command.

Army Spokesperson Maj Gen Winthai Suvaree said the Suranaree Task Force had already been placed on alert and was prepared to act under established protocols if required. Officials are continuing to monitor the situation and assess conditions along the border.

Military sources noted that the area is frequently visited by Cambodian Interim Observation Team personnel, raising concerns that the incident may have been intended as a provocation. They warned that such actions could be used to portray Thai forces as violating ceasefire measures if a response were triggered.

No casualties or injuries have been reported on the Thai side. Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available. (NNT)
