Thai Army intercepts 5.4 million meth pills in drug bust in Nong Khai

NONG KHAI, Thailand – Over 5.4 million methamphetamine pills were seized in Nong Khai Province under Thailand’s anti-narcotics “Seal Stop Safe” campaign.

Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang, Commander of the 2nd Army Region, directed the operation. The campaign was carried out by the Surasakmontri Task Force, supported by the other related task forces.



Officers received intelligence about a suspicious vehicle picking up narcotics in Pak Chom District of Loei Province. The vehicle, a silver Mitsubishi pickup with Chonburi license plates, was spotted on Route 211 heading toward Sangkhom District of Nong Khai.

Inside the vehicle, officers found 13 black sacks containing approximately 5.48 million methamphetamine pills. The driver, identified as Thao Vanpeng Wongphetkaew, a 25-year-old Laotian national from Vientiane in Laos, admitted to transporting the drugs for delivery to a Thai national for distribution.

The suspect and the drugs were handed over to Na Ngio Police Station in Sangkhom District for legal proceedings. (TNA)
