BANGKOK, Thailand – Commanders from Thai and Cambodian military units stationed along all three shared border zones reached agreements on July 29 to uphold a ceasefire and suspend troop movements ahead of the upcoming General Border Committee (GBC) meeting scheduled for August 4, 2025. The discussions, held both in person and online across the frontline provinces, aimed to reduce tensions following recent border clashes.
In Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province, representatives from Thailand’s 1st Army Region and Cambodia’s Military Region 5 met at the border checkpoint. Both sides agreed to maintain the ceasefire and suspend all military activity along the border. They also agreed to continue communicating directly to avoid any miscalculation or escalation.
In Surin province, the 2nd Army Region met with Cambodia’s Military Region 4 at the Chong Jom permanent border crossing in Kap Choeng district. Commanders on both sides confirmed their adherence to the ceasefire, agreed to stop further troop deployments, and made arrangements for humanitarian access to the injured and deceased in affected areas. Both parties shared views on reducing tensions and maintaining stability along the frontier.
A separate online meeting was held between the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defense Command and Cambodia’s Military Region 3. The conversation reaffirmed similar agreements, including a freeze on troop movements and measures to prevent additional confrontations along the southeastern border.
According to the Royal Thai Army, the border situation has remained stable following the discussions. Authorities report no new confrontations since the meetings concluded and expect continued coordination leading into the GBC meeting next week. (NNT)
