Thai Ambassador Sathana Kashemsanta Na Ayudhya briefs Greek Foreign Ministry official on border clashes, reaffirming Thailand’s commitment to peace and international law.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic, Sathana Kashemsanta Na Ayudhya, met with Ambassador Spyridon Voulgaris, Director for Asia and Oceania at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting was held to provide factual information on the recent unrest along the Thai-Cambodian border, as Greece is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Ambassador Sathana stated that Cambodia initiated the clashes with indiscriminate attacks on civilian areas, including a hospital and a school, which resulted in the loss of life. He emphasized that Thailand had exercised utmost restraint until these acts of aggression necessitated a response in self-defense, which was directed solely at military targets.

The Ambassador reaffirmed Thailand’s strict compliance with international law and the existing ceasefire agreement, noting that Cambodia had violated the ceasefire on multiple occasions. He also informed Director Voulgaris of the positive outcomes from the recent General Border Committee (GBC) meeting, underscoring Thailand’s commitment to resolving the tensions peacefully through established bilateral mechanisms.

Ambassador Voulgaris thanked the Thai envoy for the information, welcomed the progress from the GBC meeting, and expressed support for dialogue. The two officials also took the opportunity to discuss strengthening bilateral relations between Thailand and Greece, as well as with the European Union. (NNT)
