BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) is moving forward with plans to lead Thailand’s participation in future Specialized and World Expos, hosting a consultation to review its proposed role in managing the Thailand Pavilion and coordinating national representation at global events.
The meeting was informed by the white paper Lessons Learned from Thailand’s Bid to Host Expo 2028 Phuket, which recommends appointing a single agency to oversee the country’s expo participation. The paper supports expanding TCEB’s responsibilities in collaboration with civil society, the private sector, and relevant ministries to ensure consistent messaging, ongoing content development, and coordinated operations.
A supporting study by the Thammasat University Research & Consultancy Institute identified four core objectives for national pavilions at international expos: promoting diplomatic engagement, enhancing national branding, encouraging innovation and cultural exchange, and expanding global trade. The study also recommended establishing long-term agency leadership, improving knowledge transfer, and assigning clear responsibilities for sustained management.
TCEB was identified as well-equipped to lead in this area due to its status as a public organization under the Prime Minister’s Office, its direct experience with international events, its strong industry networks, and its alignment with national economic strategies. The agency also benefits from operational flexibility, budgeting readiness, and existing collaboration with ministries and departments on global event bids.
Participants in the consultation included the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Transport, Public Health, Culture, and Tourism and Sports, as well as the Budget Bureau, the Department of Tourism, the Public Relations Department, and 13 additional organizations.
TCEB will compile the study results and stakeholder input for submission to the Prime Minister’s Office Minister. The final proposal is expected to be presented to the Cabinet for consideration. (NNT)
