BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin has ordered continued monitoring of wildfire conditions in northern Thailand after fires in Ban Hong district of Lamphun province were brought under control. Authorities have been instructed to maintain coordinated operations and keep personnel and aircraft ready for rapid response.

Suchart also assigned Permanent Secretary Raweewan Bhuridej to closely track developments and provide ongoing support to local authorities. Provincial officials and relevant agencies are coordinating efforts to prevent the fires from reigniting and to reduce impacts on nearby communities.

The wildfire in Ban Hong district affected national reserved forests and conservation forest areas located in steep mountainous terrain. Helicopters were deployed for aerial firefighting operations, carrying out 38 water-drop sorties and releasing about 19,000 liters of water, which helped contain the fires in high-risk areas. Officials said no additional hotspots have been detected.

Authorities will continue monitoring wildfire conditions across northern provinces. The public has been asked to avoid all forms of open burning and to report any wildfire sightings to local officials so response teams can act quickly and limit further damage to natural resources. (NNT)
