Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said Thailand will follow its own procedures on border negotiations with Cambodia while also working with Oman to support Thai cargo vessels and expand trade opportunities.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand is maintaining a measured approach to regional diplomacy and international cooperation, with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow addressing developments involving Cambodia and Oman.

On the Thai–Cambodian border issue, Sihasak said Thailand is ready for negotiations but will proceed in line with its procedures rather than the timelines set by the other side. He said discussions must follow established steps, including the formation of the Thailand–Cambodia Joint Boundary Commission on the Thai side. Authorities are coordinating across agencies, with security bodies and the military working to establish a unified national position before further talks proceed.

The deputy prime minister added that recent calls to accelerate negotiations have raised questions about alignment between both sides. Under current conditions, multiple agencies are involved in shaping Thailand’s position, rather than leaving negotiations solely to the Foreign Ministry.

Separately, Sihasak reported progress in discussions with Oman, including support for Thai maritime interests in the Middle East. Oman has agreed to assist in coordinating the safe passage of Thai cargo vessels through the Strait of Hormuz and to relay relevant information to Iran regarding affected ships.

The talks also covered future cooperation in logistics and food production, including potential port development and a halal food hub. Thailand is now exploring opportunities for investment and trade expansion in the region to strengthen economic ties. (NNT)
