BANGKOK, Thailand – Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Supamas Isarabhakdi has led an inspection of Buddhist offering sets in Bangkok’s Sao Chingcha (Giant Swing) religious goods district ahead of Asalha Bucha Day and Buddhist Lent Day, checking product quality, labels, and price displays. Government officials from the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), the Department of Internal Trade, the Consumer Protection Police Division, the Phra Nakhon District Office, and the Thailand Consumers Council joined Minister Supamas in inspecting shops selling religious offering sets.
The OCPB said it has received complaints in previous years involving damaged products, incorrect items, and unusable goods sold in offering sets. Authorities warned that legal action will be taken against businesses selling substandard products or violating labeling rules. Under Thai consumer protection law, offering sets must carry Thai-language labels listing their contents, individual item prices, the manufacturer or distributor, packaging and expiration dates, and the total retail price. Retailers and manufacturers who fail to comply face fines, imprisonment, or both, while consumers are encouraged to inspect labels before making a purchase and report suspected violations to the OCPB.
