A scaffolding collapse on Rama II Road in Samut Sakhon province prompted immediate action from the Department of Highways (DOH). The incident occurred at 3:17 p.m. on Sunday (Apr 14) in the Bang Khunthian-Ban Phaeo section of the elevated Motorway 82 (M82) project, fortunately resulting in no injuries.

Department of Highways Director-General Sarawut Songsivilai announced that an investigation and safety checks were underway throughout the elevated road project.

The structural failure is the latest in a troubling series on Rama II Road, a vital route to the south that has experienced multiple construction-related accidents over the past year. In response, traffic was halted briefly but resumed by 3:45 p.m. after workers cleared the fallen scaffolding. The incident also led to a temporary halt of construction until April 17 to facilitate smoother travel during the Songkran festival.

The DOH has since apologized for the inconvenience caused by the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining stringent safety standards. The gesture aligns with previous directives from Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who stressed the necessity for contractors to follow established safety protocols. (NNT)
