Naval and security forces detained 67 Cambodian nationals attempting to cross into Thailand illegally in Chanthaburi, providing humanitarian assistance before legal processing and repatriation.

CHANTHABURI/TRAT, Thailand – The Royal Thai Navy increased border patrols and inspections during the New Year period, resulting in the arrest of 67 Cambodian nationals who had illegally crossed the border into Thailand.

Navy spokesperson Rear Admiral Paraj Ratanajaipan reported that the Chanthaburi Marine Task Force, under the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defense Command, in coordination with the Royal Thai Police and immigration officers, apprehended the individuals in Pong Nam Ron as they attempted to enter the Kingdom on foot without legal authorization.



The Navy spokesperson confirmed that all operations followed legal requirements and respected human dignity, in compliance with the Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearance Act. Officers gave special consideration to women and children, providing water, food, and first aid as initial humanitarian assistance.


After receiving initial assistance, the individuals were transferred to investigators at Ban Plaeng Police Station for legal proceedings and repatriation, in accordance with established procedures.

The Royal Thai Navy emphasized the importance of enforcing immigration laws to protect national security and public safety, while ensuring that enforcement is conducted with caution, humanity, and respect for human rights principles. (NNT)
