KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – The Royal Thai Embassy Organized Malaysia’s Premier Songkran Festival 2026

On April 10, 2026, Her Excellency Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, presided over the official launch of Malaysia’s Premier Songkran Festival 2026, jointly organized by the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, EQ Solutions Sdn. Bhd., and 1 Utama Shopping Centre. The festival is being held from April 9–19, 2026, at the Forecourt of 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Damansara, Selangor.

Following the official launch, Ambassador Lada led YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Malaysia’s Minister of Digital and Member of Parliament for Damansara, together with members of the diplomatic corps, invited guests, and participants, in a series of traditional Thai cultural activities. These included the Rod Nam Dam Hua (water-pouring ceremony to honor elders), Ram Wong Rearng Songkran (Thai Songkran dance), Ram Wong Klong Yao (Long Drum Dance) performed by Persatuan Siam Kelantan Kuala Lumpur (PESILA), Len Nam (water-splashing festivities), contemporary Thai cultural performances, and the wearing of traditional Thai costumes. The activities coincided with Thailand’s submission of “Chud Thai: The Knowledge, Craftsmanship, and Practices of the Thai National Costume” for inscription on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2026.

The Ambassador also emphasized the importance of the festival in advancing trade and investment cooperation between Thailand and Malaysia as both countries move toward the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027. Furthermore, the Ambassador encouraged participants to celebrate Songkran in a sustainable and responsible manner, particularly through responsible water use and energy conservation, while inviting Malaysian tourists and Friends of Thailand to experience Songkran traditions in Thailand firsthand.
