BANGKOK, Thailand – The Royal Thai Army has rejected a Cambodian media report alleging that Thai soldiers attacked Cambodian military positions near Chong An Ma on the Thai-Cambodian border. The claim, published by the Khmer-language outlet TFA/Khmer, stated that two Cambodian soldiers were injured in the incident. Thai authorities argued that the report was inaccurate and risked creating confusion about the situation along the frontier.
According to the Army, troops from the 2nd Army Area observed Cambodian forces reinforcing positions and moving closer to Thailand’s defensive line in the Chong An Ma area of Nam Yuen district, Ubon Ratchathani province. Thai personnel monitored the movement and issued verbal warnings in line with preventive procedures, without discharging any weapons.
Cambodian authorities later reported through local coordination channels that they had heard several gunshots and that one Cambodian soldier had sustained a knee injury from gunfire. The Royal Thai Army stated that Thai forces did not use weapons during the incident.
The Army called on all sides to comply with statements issued under the General Border Committee framework, including remaining within designated control areas following the ceasefire, to avoid misunderstandings and maintain stability. It also urged media outlets and the public to verify information with official sources before sharing reports that could affect security and bilateral relations. (NNT)
