NARATHIWAT, Thailand – A bomb blast at a roadside tea shop in Thailand’s restive deep south wounded nine people, including three police officers, on Thursday morning.
The explosion struck at a bustling tea shop in Yingo district, Narathiwat province. Police believe the attack targeted a police patrol team conducting routine route security nearby.
The blast damaged the shop and a civilian pickup truck. The three injured police officers and six wounded civilians were taken to Yingo Hospital.
Bomb disposal teams sealed the area to collect evidence. Authorities suspect an improvised explosive device was planted and detonated as the police vehicle passed.
Security measures have been heightened as officials launch an investigation to track down the perpetrators. Narathiwat is one of three provinces in Thailand’s Muslim-majority deep south where a long-running insurgency is active. (TNA)
