BANGKOK, Thailand – The “Drama-addict” Facebook page highlighted the ongoing frustrations of residents in the Rama 2 area due to the rapid pace of road construction and early closures of the road, causing significant disruptions to commuters, April 27.
A Facebook user shared their experience of commuting in the Samut Sakhon zone, near the Phanthai Norasingh Temple. They described how, every day around 6:00 PM or just before 7:00 PM, the construction crews would begin closing the roads. This early closure, the user noted, impacted thousands of workers trying to head home from their jobs, especially in areas near shopping malls where workers are finishing their shifts.
The user also compared the current construction schedule to earlier phases when road closures occurred later at night, such as midnight or 11:00 PM, which they felt was a more reasonable time to avoid disrupting commuters.
Despite the road being closed by 8:00 PM, images shared by the user revealed no construction activity taking place at the construction site. The early closure appeared to be a precautionary measure rather than an active work phase. The issue worsened on Fridays, with heavy traffic due to various types of vehicles, including trucks and motorcycles, having to share the limited lanes.
The user also provided an example from March 26, when roadwork on the bridge near the Bang Khun Thian intersection caused significant congestion. As the construction trucks, cranes, and concrete trucks mixed with regular traffic, it created chaos, particularly on Fridays when traffic was already heavier.
As a result, the user urged media outlets to bring attention to the issue and called on relevant authorities to reconsider the timing of road closures to better accommodate the daily commuters and reduce traffic disruptions.
