BANGKOK, Thailand – A pedestrian bridge collapsed onto a major highway on the outskirts of Bangkok on Thursday (Dec 18) after being struck by a dump truck with its bed raised, leaving one person dead and another seriously injured.

The accident occurred around 9:00 a.m. on the inbound lanes of the Bangna-Trad Road in Samut Prakan province, when a massive concrete beam fell and crushed both the involved truck and a pickup truck carrying eggs.

The driver of the pickup was killed instantly, while rescue workers spent over two hours using heavy cranes to extract the trapped truck driver from the wreckage.

CCTV footage showed the truck traveling with its bed fully extended before the impact, despite reported attempts by other motorists to alert the driver by honking.

The Department of Highways diverted traffic to frontage roads while crews worked to clear the debris and reopen the vital thoroughfare.  (TNA)
