BANGKOK, Thailand – Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya has been formally appointed WIPO Ambassador for Fashion and Design, in recognition of her contributions to fashion, design, intellectual property, and the promotion of cultural heritage through creative industries. At the conferment ceremony, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Director General Daren Tang emphasized WIPO’s mission to support innovation and creativity through intellectual property. He stressed that IP should be a practical tool for creators, innovators, and communities at all levels. He noted Thailand’s longstanding partnership with WIPO and commended the Thai Royal Family for promoting intellectual property for public benefit. He recalled that His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great received WIPO’s first Global Leader Award in 2009 for his contributions as an inventor and advocate of intellectual property, and that Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn received the WIPO Award for Creative Excellence in 2015.
The Director General stated that Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari continues this legacy through her achievements in sports, fashion, and design. He highlighted her extensive use of the intellectual property system, with hundreds of registered designs, copyrights, and trademarks for fashion, jewelry, leather goods, home décor, and related services in multiple countries. Beyond her personal achievements, Her Royal Highness has worked closely with Thai artisans and craftspeople to transform traditional heritage into contemporary products with international market potential. Her efforts show how cultural identity, creativity, and intellectual property can generate economic opportunities and support sustainable development. WIPO expressed confidence that, in her new role, Her Royal Highness will promote the strategic use of intellectual property and support creative communities in Thailand and internationally.
