PATTANI, Thailand – Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited Sirindhorn Camp in Pattani province on September 16 to preside over activities commemorating the camp’s 46th anniversary and offer encouragement to personnel and residents. Fourth Army Area Commander Lt. Gen. Norathip Poinok, senior military officials, members of the Royal Thai Army Wives Association, and other personnel were present at the venue to welcome Her Royal Highness.
His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great bestowed the name Sirindhorn Camp on December 18, 1979, in honor of Her Royal Highness, who formally opened the camp on September 22, 1980. The Royal Thai Army later designated September 22 as Sirindhorn Camp Establishment Day. During the anniversary activities, Her Royal Highness presided over a religious ceremony for auspiciousness and blessings.
Lt. Gen. Norathip, as well as 100 benefactors and supporters, made donations for charitable purposes at Her Royal Highness’s discretion and received commemorative pins. Her Royal Highness later viewed products from the Sirindhorn Camp Batik Center, which adapts local knowledge and traditional craftsmanship for contemporary use, and personally applied color to a batik pattern.
Her Royal Highness also observed activities by children from the Sirindhorn Camp Child Development Center, which currently cares for 40 children, and presented gifts to a boy and a girl representing the center. The royal visit provided encouragement to personnel and families in the southern border provinces while recognizing the camp’s work with local communities and traditional craftsmanship. (NNT)
