CHIANG RAI, Thailand – Chaos erupted when officers from the Yothin Patrol Unit at Chiang Rai Police Station narrowly escaped injury after a drug-fueled driver in a black Toyota Vios plowed through their checkpoint on the Chiang Rai bypass near Chalerm Phrakiat Bridge late Saturday night (October 5).
Initially, the operation appeared routine until officers noticed the speeding vehicle approaching from the north toward the city. Despite signals to stop, the driver accelerated, forcing police to jump aside to avoid being hit. The car smashed through traffic cones and rammed a police motorcycle (license plate 76118), causing extensive damage before fleeing the scene.
Officers immediately pursued the suspect using patrol cars and motorcycles, eventually intercepting the vehicle. The driver was identified as Mr. Suchon, 30, who appeared heavily intoxicated. A search of the vehicle uncovered 15 methamphetamine pills, and further testing revealed the presence of heroin in his system.
Police collected evidence from the scene and took the suspect to Chiang Rai Police Station for legal proceedings. He now faces several serious charges, including attempted murder of an officer on duty, destruction of government property, resisting arrest, possession of Category 1 narcotics (methamphetamine), driving under the influence of drugs, and consumption of Category 1 narcotics (heroin).
